Skill: Beer Brewing

Share |

Learn to brew your own beer! And drink some home-brewed beer while you're at it. All for free. 21 and up. This will be an introductory course and will involve brewing a basic beer recipe kit. With warmer temperatures on the way, it is appropriate to brew an ale, so we'll be brewing Cologne Kolsch. We'll have pizza, too. Bring a glass to drink from and, if you like, a game for us to play. NOTE: there is a dog, so if you are allergic, might not be the best idea. ROUGH SCHEDULE: 1pm Brief overview of brewing process and equipment items, 1:30pm Grains steeping (proceed with transfer demonstration), 2pm Boil (eat pizza and drink homebrew!), 3:15pm Chill wort, add yeast, 3:30pm Clean-up, questions, etc.

How is the evening of July 8 for people?

Jacob Melby
I will be bottling the Kolsch this week/weekend and it will have to carbonate for ~2 weeks. The first course date would likely occur after July 4. I am likely going to be out of town that next weekend (July 10), but evenings during the week would work.

I'm down with Kolsch or English Pale Ale, but definitely fine with any good summer brew! :)

I trust the brew master and my love of beer stems from german based wheat brew : ) My request is that home brew 101 happens after May 23 because I am out of town until then. Fingers-Crossed!

Hi, I am Jacob and I will be your instructor for Home Brewing 101. This will be an introductory course and will involve brewing a basic beer recipe kit. In order to make sure you have fresh homebrew to drink I need to get things going ASAP, but first I wanted your input on beer styles. With warmer temperatures on the way, it is appropriate to brew ale. Here are several options: English Pale Ale, Köln Kolsch, Red or Copper Ale. There are also some heavier stouts and porters we could brew but lets save those for when it’s cooling down outside. Personally I am pushing for the Kolsch, which is a great summertime beer. If you have any other preference please leave a comment.
